Eurovision Song Raises Grand Prize, Lowers rates
ANN ARBOR, MI – As the Great Lakes Songwriting Contest celebrates its fifth year of operation, the registration fee has been reduced and the Grand Prize increased.

This year's Grand Prix consist of $ 2,000 in cash, plus tuition, room and board at a music retreat, plus a chance to star concert of the winners in February 2009. And participants may elect to participate by mail or online, through a partnership with indie music promoter Sonic offers.
The competition is open to musicians of all ages and all musical styles in the eight states and one Canadian province bordering the Great Lakes: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York and the Province of Ontario, Canada. Composers waive any rights to their songs as a condition enter or win. Eleven winning songs will be elected in 2008. Entries must be postmarked on or before Friday, April 25, 2008.

However, some of the best music is written by renowned Locally, little known and unknown composers, and that's what we're looking for. "
Previous winners have included an organic farmer in the area rural Michigan, a retired Navy captain Body of Minneapolis, a Chicago novelist, a former child actress, and many high school and college students. Winning songs have ranged from hard-rock instrumental jazz, country, folk, R & B, Christian, and several hybrids. For the past years, winners have performed on stage filled out in winners' concert at the Theatre of the series Trinity House in Livonia, MI.
Previous judges have included Andrea Stolpe, hit songwriter, author and teacher of the Berklee College of Music program online songwriting, Freebo, the singer-songwriter and long time bass player for Bonnie Raitt, Chicago Rich Warren syndicated radio host of the composer show "The Midnight Special", Nadir, MTV host, author and award-winning Toronto and Jodi Krangle, owner "The muse muse of" composers "newsletter and online website. The 2008 judges will be announced when the winners are announced in October 2008.
Participants in the contest are not forced to choose a specific category for their songs. Each song is judged on its own merits, not what well that complies with the conventions of a particular genre. The contest is sponsored by Songbridge, the song based marketing company Ontario, Canada, which provides a weekly field sheet to members of its membership and a free e-newsletter with tips and marketing ideas; Elderly Instruments Lansing (MI), one of the largest U.S. suppliers by mail of the stringed instruments old and new; Retirement Composers Lamb Royal Oak (MI), which has ended the weekend in northern Michigan, and the seller's CD Minneapolis, an online company that has created a CD selling tool for artists independent. The competition is organized by the composers of Michigan, Ann Arbor-based cooperative that previously sponsored the Metro Detroit and Michigan Songwriting Contest. The competition has attracted nearly 500 entries every year since its founding in 2003.
