The world premiere of the musical was the September 27, 1986 at Her Majesty's Theatre in London. The first production opened on Broadway January 9, 1988 at the Majestic Theatre. The Phantom of the Opera has become a great movie as well. It is perhaps the most popular musical in history Broadway.

The story of Phantom of the Opera revolves around three main characters. One of them is a disfigured musical genius vestibular and composer who wears a mask to hide his deformity and is known as the ghost who haunts the Paris Opera. He is in love with Christine Daae, an opera chorus girl who takes under his wing and trains to become an opera singer well. Christine is in love with Raul, who has been known as a child and rediscovered it in the Opera House Paris.

The story begins with a scene in 1911, with Raul as a seventy year old wheelchair bound that is present in auction of the Paris Opera. The auctioneer explains the relevance of a chandelier on the screen in relation to the phantom of the opera and then scene changes back to the Paris Opera House in its heights.

We see the prima donna Carlotta at a rehearsal of the opera, Hannibal, when suddenly a curtain falls background, almost killing her. There are cries of "It's the ghost" and she refuses to sing after that. Christine is asked to perform by her friend, who is the daughter of teacher ballet. Raoul is there and recognizes her as his childhood friend. He wants to take her to dinner but she refuses saying her music teacher will not. After Thus, we find that her music teacher is the Phantom himself who is obsessed with her.

The rest of the story progresses with her love for Raoul blossoming and the phantom angry about that. In the end, Christine is kidnapped by the Phantom who asks her to stay with him forever or he would kill Raoul. His decision brings the end of the ghost story of the opera.

The musical is directed by Harold Prince with haunting and unforgettable music composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, who also wrote the screenplay.
