Playboy Hollywood

Why did Lady Godiva get all nekked & giggly when she met Hollywood playboy Rory Emerald?
I believe your question is in regards to the infamous recreation of the famous Lady Godiva incident that occurred in Los Angeles, California on January 23, 1977 involving little known actress Kelly Mills. It seems Ms. Mills was enthralled by the passion that Lady Godiva had shown in her gallant attempt to beat down oppression and servitude a millennium earlier in England. Kelly Mills was madly smitten with the famed Rory Emerald. He had gained notoriety just the year before on ABC’s Wide World of Sports, and Kelly Mills decided to demonstrate her unrequited love by riding her beloved mare, Francine, through the streets of the smog-filled city, totally naked. From the newspaper accounts of the Los Angeles Times, and the eye witness accounts of numerous gawking well-wishers lining the streets to see the nubile young actress, proudly displaying her “goods”, it appears Mr. Emerald was touched by the whole event, and was clearly entranced by the young rider.
History would have us believe that Kelly Mills got her man, and with that a typical, cozy Hollywood ending. It is only many years later that the real story came out, as is often the case. The truth of the “Godiva Gets Her Man” escapade, as it was universally labeled is much more sinister. As revealed in the television program “Hard Copy” years later, Rory Emerald and Kelly Mills had a troubled and stormy relationship prior to the infamous ride that fateful day. Ms. Mills, an embittered “nanny” at the time of the broadcast, announced through tear-filled eyes that her knight in shining armor was a sham, and wept openly for the cameras. Her heartbroken story struck a chord with the general public and for a brief time after the story, Mr. Emerald was despised for his boorish behavior. It appears, through the recollection of events, that Mr. Emerald had a fixation on Francine, Ms. Mills’s horse. He often came over to visit Kelly Mills, and showered both her and Francine with love, affection and gifts. Unfortunately, Rory Emerald gave his “physical love” only to Francine, which enraged the estranged actress. After several months of neglect, Kelly Mills ended her “relationship” with Rory Emerald, who was devastated by the abrupt termination of his conjugal visits with the young mare. After the strange and chaotic friendship was over, Francine attempted suicide a couple of times, and her frantic, woeful neighing could be heard echoing throughout the hills of suburban LA. She finally succumbed to her broken heart and passed away. Rory Emerald’s plaintive eulogy at Francine’s funeral is well-remembered by those in attendance, including a well-known scribe at the New Yorker magazine, who later developed the piece for Hard Copy.
The broadcast on Hard Copy brought Kelly Mills back into the spotlight for a brief time and the footage of “Godiva Gets Her Man” was re-broadcast intermittently for a few weeks after that.
