Hollywood Vs. America
9/11 partly our fault?
I just finished watching Charlie Wilson’s War. From what I understand, we trained Afghanistan to fight the Russians, but because we didn’t give them any money to rebuild their nation, it was left a third world country with military technology that was top notch for the time period.
How much of the movie is just simple Hollywood good guys vs. bad guys, and how much was true?
If most was true, would 9/11 still have occured if America gave the resources to Afghanistan to build schools, shelters, and a stable economy? Why or why not?
Please add sources. I’m looking for serious answers and not answers telling me I’m unpatriotic.
You’re not UnPatriotic, you’re just thinking more than others, and you’re absolutely correct. Here is the ideal of “blowback”.
Cause: In the 1950′s, we took down the elected government of Iran thru the CIA, installing the Shah, Mossadeq and his paid puppeteers. We later brought in Western oil companies, and other military materials.
Result: This caused the Iranian Revolution; The Shah was kicked out, and American were held in the US embassy until the US stopped meddling in their government. The new elected democratic government was formed, and from then, the US still hates Iran for no reason.
Cause: In the 70′s-80′s, we armed and financed Osama bin Laden, and his mujahideen friends. He was trained by the CIA, and was told to launch and kick out the Soviets.
Result: Afte successfully kicking out the Soviets, the US ignored bin Laden, and wanted to install military bases in Saudi Arabia. This angered OBL, and he asked us to leave, or face an attack. After ignoring his threats, in 1993 the WTC was attacked by a bomb.
More effects by our foreign policies: After ignroing OBL, he said to withdraw bases from SA, Jordan, Kuwait, stopped bombing Saddam’s country, and quit our interderence in his soil. After ignroing his threats once again, this resulted in 9/11.
In a way, our foreign policies cause others to hate us, and we had Saddam as our friend too. He was given Weapons to attack Iran, and he later found that he was wrong for obeying US support, and stopped selling oil in Dollars. Take care.
