Hollywood Representation

teenager Representation? ?
Hey!
okay
i have two films
1) angus thongs and perfect snogging
2) breakfast club – probably havent heard of this but it was shot in the late 80′s
this is my task :
- do eaither of the films challenge traditional representation of young people? (TEENS)
- which is most sucessful and why?
- in what ways are these films identifiable as hollywood and non hollwood films
& is angus thngs and perfect snogging a non hollywood film?
thanks!

*STEROTYPES*
etc etc
I have watched both. I definitely think the breakfast club challenges the stereotype of teenagers the best, the characters were should to possess a strong sense of empathy that their adult peers completely lacked. They were all insightful, though it could be seen as another teenage angst film, I don’t think it is, the characters each had to cope with very difficult and in one case a life threatening problem. Angus, Thongs and Perfect snogging however just confirms the belief that teenage girls are obsessed with their own image, social status and romantic relationships. You could however argue that Robby challenges the stereotype because he chooses georgina over lindsay based on personality not looks. I would identify The breakfast club as a more hollywood film because it was an MTV productions and the actors in it were well established at the time. I hope that helps xx

The Desire to Desire: The Woman’s Film of the 1940s (Theories of Representation and Difference) $11.66 What is female spectatorship? When Hollywood films are geared for an audience of women, what ideals do they tend to promote? How should feminist theory contend with the image of women that the cinema passes on?
