How come the biggest Hollywood tough guys that played military heroes never had any military background?
Arnold Schwarzennager
Sylvester Stallone
Al Pacino
Robert DeNiro
Mel Gibson
Bruce Willis
and Charlie Sheen (questionable as to whether he belongs in the same class as these guys)
You will not find anyone that belongs to the same class as these guys with a military background post WWII. Drew Carry doesn’t count.
So why are these tough guys lacking a military background, while the ones who actually have it never made it big as tough guys in Hollywood?
Wouldn’t you think that an actor with a real military background should be able to play characters as tough as the ones played by actors who never were in the military?
Sorry, but all those guys you’re naming just aren’t in the same league as Arnold Schwarzenneger and Sylvester Stallone. If your guys were in the same movies as these guys, they would be mere background characters.
The most decorated soldier in US military history was an actor – Audie Murphy. Ronald Reagan (yes, the former president) was an actor and served during the war, admittedly not in combat zones. Mr T was in the Military Police. Jimmy Stewart was a bomber pilot in World War 2 rising to the rank of Brigadier General. Then there was:
