The Shining is the ONE Stephen King creation that is more known for the actor than for the writer.
Jack Nicholson’s unforgettable FACE peeking through an ax chopped door is one of the most famous single pictures of a Hollywood legend from a movie.
You probably have to bring up Clark Gable gazing at Vivian Leigh in Gone with the wind to top it!
Nicholson’s ad libbed line HEEEERES JOHNY! is arguably the most remembered line from a Hollywood horror film!
Jack and Stanley Kubrick magically combined to create a suspense masterpiece of terror!
Many top 10 lists compiled have The Shining in the top 3 horror films ever along with Psycho and the Exorcist!
Stephen King however IS NOT however the first thing that comes to the average Joe’s mind! It is the image of JACK!
Is Stephen King’s artistic ego bruised?
The only thing we know for sure is that he said he was not entirely pleased with Jack and Stanley’s mega hit!
In 97 he did his own TV version he said was closer to the book
Stephen King is probly the most recognized living author, at least top 5 of all time most likely. What does he have to be jealous of? Sure the first thing people think of is Jack but when you ask who wrote the book the Shining they all know it was King. Honestly if anyone got shafted fame wise there its Kubrick, sure most people who know movies see him for the genious that he is but he isn’t a household name for some reason and people think of King a lot sooner than Kubrick when they think of the Shining.
