Does anyone know the history of the “Outpost Sign” – 1920′s “sister” to the Hollywood Sign?

A little known fact is that in the 1920′s, the famous Hollywood sign (formerly the Hollywoodland sign) had a competing sister sign called the Outpost Sign. At the time, it was the largest neon sign in the world. The sign’s still there, not far from the Hollywood sign, but toppled over, covered by weeds. Does ANY one have any information about it? Thank you.
