how much weight can Trunk Lid hold, with bike rack attached?

Hello..

anyone know how much weight can Jetta’s trunk lid hold before it crumbles/changes shape/or detaches from the body?

I bought a “Hollywood Rack express E3″ to hold two of my bikes. The rack itself is probably 15-20 lbs, and the two bikes are ~80 lbs. So 100lbs holding onto the lid, is that too much for Jetta’s lid construction?

I’m probably gonna drive really slow, 60ish on hwy and very slow locally.

its a 2010 mkv Jetta, made in mexico.
thanks in advance

Amy

I took a look at the manufacturers video on the mounting and use. The counter weight system keeps the weight and pressure on the trunks verticle surface. You should be o.k. with this type of rack. Be sure to go back and forth making sure that your straps are tight. When you tighten one, go to the opposite side and tighten it again too. Go back and forth, taking all slack out of the straps. There should be NO bounce in the unloaded rack. It should feel like it is welded to the trunk before you mount the bikes!

I would put a soft wash rag under each of the pads that touch the finish of my car. It would be my attempt to make sure I limit any scratching that may occur from contact with my paint job.
