New York City Tour: give your regards to Broadway Old and New
One of the must see places to visit while in New York is the district Broadway, located in Manhattan. Broadway is great if you are in a New York ride, because there is so much to see in this very long avenue that runs north to south. While Broadway is most famous for its shows, you will see some wonderfully designed old buildings, restaurants of every stripe, landmarks and plenty of shops.
The famous Flatiron Building sits majestically at the intersection of Broadway, Fifth Avenue and 23rd Street. Built in the early past, an office building is wedge-shaped 21-story continues to attract curious visitors. Officially called the Fuller Building, after George A. Fuller financed construction was nicknamed the Flatiron Building because the way the foundation looked like an iron.
It is rumored to have helped coin the popular Decade 1920 Phase slang "23 Skidoo" (meaning out of here) where the men gathered in the building in a windy day to see the ladies skirts fly in a gust of wind. Officers who scare kids away uttering "23" Skidoo.
Walking further down Broadway, one detects the world's most famous buildings – the Woolworth Building, located at 233 Broadway. The building was commissioned by the wealthy businessman, Franklin Woolworth, founder of the Company FW Woolworth. Franklin Woolworth pioneered the concept of discount stores and got enough money to pay more than thirteen million dollars in cash for the building bears his name. The Woolworth Building opened in 1913 and is a National Historic Landmark.
A short ten minute walk to the north will bring to the famous Times Square – one of the most recognizable in the world. Her heart skips a beat as you stand at the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Avenue. This is not just the famous theater district, but you will be dazzled by the hustle and bustle of people, taxis, and so much to see and do. Therefore, be there one moment and take it all in.
If you're into people watching, this is the place to be. Sitting around a restaurant table, and seeing all the interesting people walk through what you eat a nice meal. A place famous you may want to try is the Rainbow Room, located just north of Times Square in Rockefeller Center. If you're in the mood for something sweet, Lindy's delicatessen is known to have some awesome cheesecake New York style.
If you get to Times Square early enough in the morning, you can stand out of NBC, and waves to family and friends, as the tape of her morning program. Young people can enjoy a visit to the MTV studio, also located in this area.
Many people come to Times Square to see a theater show and here is where you can buy tickets. Understanding theater audience with the extra time their hands can be found at the TKTS (Tee-Tee-Ess Kay) stand waiting in line for discount theater tickets. There are two places in the city. Broadway's stand is in 45th and 47th streets. While there is no guarantee of getting a ticket, you can buy tickets here for 25-50% off regular price.
After visiting souvenir shops, which could only go through the Naked Cowboy (who performs in his underwear) strumming his guitar red, white and blue and singing one of her original songs. Street performing or busking, is a long tradition in the city of New York. Without doubt, adds to the colorful atmosphere.
Continuting on their way on foot, you get to Columbus Circle, which intersects Broadway, Central Park West and Central Park South. This is the first roundabout built in the U.S. If you are a lover of music and ballet you will want to see the Lincoln Center, home of the Joffrey Ballet and American companies, and hosts of many orchestras and special cultural events.
Exploration Broadway Avenue will definitely be an enriching experience during their visit to New York. You will see firsthand why Broadway is celebrated around the world as a center of entertainment and excitement.
