The appeal of older men
While pondering what to talk about in my last blog, my husband made a suggestion I found irresistible! More joke that seriously, said: "Why not talk about the sex appeal of older men, and call it" Who's Your Daddy? "
Never thought I would take it seriously. Well, you see, I did. By age, I'm talking specifically about men fifty years. Yes, I have a good eye puppets for the young stud, cut and lean sex machines! But many of those to die for men see it that way to attract men. Although good to eat eyes, is rather like pressing your nose against the window of a candy store. Drooling over the good is the measure of what you get.
The robust virility I'm talking about older men I know first hand. Working in the maritime transport sector, as long as I have, I know that the sailors. These are not sailors Navy, are the merchant seamen. They have spent a good part of their lives in commercial vessels, sailing around the world. Once we reached the coast, continued working with the vessels in a variety of roles.
Due to the demands of my work, I have to travel from time to time. I've been in Singapore, Tokyo, Copenhagen, Barcelona and Norway. In all these places, I met the sailors. I spoke with them, drank with them and has been accepted by them. They have told me stories that made me laugh until the tears ran. In fact, I'm writing an anthology called Hello Sailor to be released sometime in 2008. It is a collection of three novels based on stories I've been told by my friends sailor.
These men are racing sailors. These are strong people, freewheel, stubborn, perversely fun and sexy. Most of all – God bless – love women! You might be surprised to know that not only love women, who respect women. Of course I tell jokes! They are sailors after all. But every time I socialized with them, individually or in groups, I am treated with courtesy such limits with gallantry. Even my husband (Do not tell him I said it!) Is so polite and courteous as they are.
They are not pretty boys. Far from it. They carry an aura of masculinity that can only be achieved with years of self-sufficiency. Being a sailor is not an easy life. I work hard and show the hard life in the face, strong character etched in every line. Such might not be considered classically handsome. However, they have in their attractive virility, maturity and individuality.
In our youth oriented culture, is a refreshing reminder to know that sex appeal does not diminish the increase of candles. Both men and women remain sexual beings for as long as the fire burns inside. I have every intention to keep my fire fueled by many years. I think my friends feel the same sailor.
As a final note, the piece then eloquently sums up how I feel about my life and my writing.
In 1981, Lena Horne became a Broadway show, a woman named "Lena Horne – The Lady and her music." In the show, described herself as a Late Bloomer. I seem to appreciate your comment more now than ever before.
In the early demonstration she sang her signature song "Stormy Weather", as he sang in the film. Late in the second half of the series, announced its next number, diciendo''Tuve to grow in this song.''
And then what does she do? She canta''Stormy Weather''todo again. Only this time she sings as if he had grown only at her as if she had never sung before. The words came out of it with an evangelical fervor that covered it, and the public, with sweat and tears.
I'm growing in my song as Lena made it, learning to sing Again, in a new way, with a new perspective. Who knew it could be so good!
